About Us
My name is Sarah Anne Hrones, and I am the founder of Hawk Ridge Shilohs. My journey into Shiloh Shepherds had a bit of an unusual beginning, but one I am grateful for nevertheless. I got my first dog, Hawk, in college during a difficult time of my life. He was a German Shepherd/Malamute/Husky mix, and was incredibly beautiful! However, he was unlucky in the genetic lottery, and passed away at 7 years old from hemangiosarcoma. He was my first heart dog and, obviously, the namesake for my program Hawk Ridge. He lived in Atlanta, Georgia with me through college and after as I navigated young adulthood. Through him, I discovered my love and passion for photography, and expanded my knowledge of training and working with dogs. I also got another Shepherd/Malamute mix, Falcon, right before I met Amanda Carnes of NewMoon Shilohs through interacting with "Dog Instagram", and thus I was introduced to the Shiloh Shepherd breed!
Having 2 dogs in college, I decided we could not get another until my (then boyfriend) husband and I were both graduated and working. I started talking with Amanda all the time, asking her questions about the breed, and got on her waitlist for a puppy from her program. My husband and I were on the waitlist for 2 and a half years until finally, we were ready and took home our first Shiloh Shepherd, Brave! We knew we wanted a mentorship and breeding quality dog from the get-go, and could not have picked a better mentor. She was informative, honest, and kept in communication regularly, as well as encouraged us to show and train Brave. Without her we would never be where we are today!
We continued growing our dog family, and were completely obsessed with the breed. Brave had his first stud sired litter around the time we got Grimm, our second Shiloh, and it was such a rewarding experience seeing all the hard work and effort put into making an ethically bred, well-bred litter. I absolutely caught the bug, and it has been my goal ever since to contribute to furthering the welfare and preservation of this incredible breed by beginning my own program. We now have since added Cordelia, who will be our foundation matriarch, out of one of my favorite Shiloh females (Vesta of NewMoon Shilohs), as well as Omen, who is Cordelia's half brother. All of our Shilohs will hopefully go on to contributing to the breeding gene pool, but even if they do not pass testing or wash out, they will be forever cherished as irreplaceable members of our family.
In 2024, we made the decision to move from Georgia to Pennsylvania for a variety of personal reasons, but a large one being that we wanted more space and room for our animals, as well as to be close to shows and trials. We live in the Lehigh Valley, on a beautiful hobby farm with 6 horses, 6 dogs (the extra 2 are Falcon, our Malamute mix and Wren, our Korean Village Dog), 3 cats, 30 chickens, and 2 snakes. Our dogs enjoy roaming our land and the neighboring Christmas tree farm, on their off weeks from dog competitions!
We strive to give all dogs and puppies in our program a healthy exposure to a variety of environments and stimulus. Our puppies are exposed to Puppy Culture, begin potty and crate training before coming home to you, and have their first shots, microchip, deworming records, and health certificates.
I am driven for continuous improvement of our wonderful breed and know it is my duty to be a good steward as an ethical preservation breeder. I am always an open book, will be willing to answer any question you may have (or try and find the answer if I don't know it), and will be there for you and your puppy throughout their entire lifetime. Even if you do not get a puppy through our program, I am also as a board member of the ISSDC (International Shiloh Shepherd Dog Club) happy to support you in any way possible through your journey into Shiloh Shepherds.
